Favorite band ever?

I know we had a thread about favorite songs and whatnot, but I really felt that there should be a favorite band thread. I think the relationship between band and listener is a very personal one and what your favorite band is can say a lot about you. Also, for the sake of finding new and good music, that is beloved by someone else. Tell us who your favorite band is and why.

I'll start. My favorite band is Brand New. I've always loved them, but I've just come to terms with how important they are to me. Their songs and lyrics have helped me out with some rough shit in my life and I will always owe that to them. Not only that but they are just an all-around good band. You can't pin their sound to any particular genre (save Your Favorite Weapon)- they are just Brand New. They manage to pull off being good and catchy at the same time, which I personally think is a valuable trait for a band. And the lyrics man, the lyrics.

Overall I'd have to say my favorite band is VNV.

Though i have a very eclectic selection of music. I don't know many of there songs i don't like. It seems every album has it's own sound to it, or a theme.

don't forget to say why! it's too easy to say which band is your favorite, but when you say why it really gets you thinking about what makes you love them and also gives other people incentive to listen to that band!
