Went into BIOS and for some reason found no way to check my PSU...
My BIOS doesn't seem to have "PC Health Status" like i see others have.

PC health status basically monitors the computer's overall temperature & for mine specifically, allows me to adjust the wattage/voltage towards certain parts of the PC... You don't necessarily NEED to have it.

P.S. Large companies like Dell & Sony lock the bios so you are unable to overclock/make certain changes to the computer to cause harm to it (and for good reason...)

I'm assuming your power supply could be failing or something is eating WAY too much power when it doesn't have to but that'd be my guess. It's also very possible the heatsink on your video card may be faulty/not mounted correctly or as the others have guessed, your CPU heatsink isn't taking hold due to the thermal paste.

Not everyone's BIOS is identical. It might have a different name or be placed in a different area within your BIOS.

Also your BIOS name should be somewhere. Tell us that.

OK.  You will have to replace the power supply.

BEFORE you do this:

Review this troubleshooting guide.  See if it helps diagnose the issues:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1349426

See if you can figure out the problem.
Then:
Please give the specifications of the system:

Processor, Memory (Amount and speed) Motherboard name and brand (it should be on the face of the motherboard, and Dell typically uses brand name boards.)

Why am I asking?  You are about to drop 2-300 on the system.  If it is more than 2-3 years old, it may be wiser to buy new than update.

Now, on to power supplies:
Simple power supply calculator.  You will need to know the cpu, ram and speed of it, hard drive size and type, etc.
http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
Tell us what it says for you to get.

Then I would look at these brands of power supplies:  Antec, XFX, Corsair (typically good bang for the buck) Seasonic (expensive, high end - think server and hard core business workstations) Enermax, Thermaltake (careful with this brand, they outsource to others, and sometimes get bad models, research before buying) Super Flower (new brand, great reviews) OCZ

Careful of the cheaper brands.  If it is cheap, there is a reason.

My recommendation would be to look for Corsair power supplies, as they are relatively inexpensive, and good performers. Upside: Good ratings, price.  Downside: Many do not have Modular (removable) cables, and can have an issue with cable management.

Inexpensive:

I think CPU-Z has most of the details your looking for. I can't fill out the PSU calculator though, there are a lot of components that i just don't understand there.

On a side note, the core speed on my CPU seems to fluctuate between 1596Hz and 2965Hz.

Antec is a decent company. I would go with that.

It looks fine, however it is cheap and you should check the reviews for the pros/cons... I usually won't purchase a product with a lot of DOA's or having to RMA it...

He doesn't have or does have a custom built PC?

Like I was only really going with the fact that NE said it was compatible.

I was assuming that he had a prefab machine.

I know this weekend I wanted to stick a 600Watt Coraisr PSU into an HP midtower.

I needs to install me a GTX 460 in that bitch.

Now that required a little finesse...in the tune of a pair of fucking tin snips so that the power plug was not being blocked by some dumbass piece of metal.

If this was just a basic run of the mil custom built PC with an ATX case. I would highly suggest a Corsair TX or HX series PSU. Of the 650+ watt variety.

Or even a thermaltake PSU I used to use them years ago, but my love has gone to Corsair. Sincet hey use Seasonic and that other C word named company to havet heir PSUs made.

cheers,

Alright,
So make sure that if you did put this into your rig.

The plug would not be obstructed. Just realize that if you have a top load PSU. (Power supply that sits on the top of the case) as opposed to the now popular Bottom load (DUH BOTTOM OF THE CASE) psu that you would have to flip that image around to get an idea of where the plug will be in regards to your current PSU.

Actually take a picture oft he back of your system so we can get a good look at which PSU we should suggest.

Trust me otherwise you are going to buy something and be like AWW FUCK!!! it doesn't fit -_-

I wander if you can run through the compatibility search on newegg and then link the results to us.

Or just look on the left hand side and tell us what the Brand options you have to choose from.

Antec again is not the best, but it is decent.

If there is something better for the same price we would rather have you jump on that.

thanks,

Antec is usually good. They do have a rare bad power supply.  Do look for reviews of the psu before buying.

It is a Dell Inspiron, Wooley.

Make sure to measure your present power supply, and see if the size matches the one you want to purchase.  Some of those Dell cases are tight.

Enjoy.
