Only time it's okay to build with admin commands is to do things like change the type of block - for example, change red wool to rose wool.

Do it like they do in real life, dam off all the water, build it, then remove the dam and the water is back in place.

If you want unlimited blocks for building, there is always alpha. I just like the difficulty of getting the blocks, building something brick by brick and finishing it. There is a sense of accomplishment.

Do it like they do in real life, dam off all the water, build it, then remove the dam and the water is back in place.

I built a 32 by 32 block fortress without cheats out of stuff that I had made, and had a pack of hunting dogs inside. The floors were colored with blue wool, the walls were decorated with paintings, and I had guard towers on top. It was classy as fuck.
