Switzerland would be a great example of a country that can control it's fire arms, they're armed to the teeth, but since the population is smaller than 'merica's, then it's way easier to control firearms.

sorry, but you can't compare small nations with 5-10 million pops that have proper control and are 90% one ethnicity to a 330 million population that comprises 50 states where each has their own culture and on top of that many different ethnicities. It just doesn't work.

Well then you got your problem, you can't control gun laws if the population is much bigger. 270 million americans own guns, thats 90 / 100 americans. I'm just saying that if the US citizens want to keep their guns, they would have to follow other examples like Switzerland . But since the population is too big, then more extreme mesures have to be made.

Switzerland has conscription, and ALL ABLE BODIED CITIZENS are required to go thru military training, and serve 2 years.  At the End of 2 years - ALL are REQUIRED to keep a FULLY AUTOMATIC MILITARY rifle, with 200 rounds of ammo, in their home.

Point is this: A well armed society is a polite society.

FYI: According to the FBI statistics, weapons that kill MORE US citizens than ANY and ALL rifle deaths, include BARE HANDS.

Again, this is not a gun issue.  This is a Mental Health Issue.

And due to the over hype, over coverage, and incessant Media milking of a sad story for ratings and profit, the next unstable mind will look at all that coverage, and think, gee, I can be famous too!

And due to the FACT the school was a GUN FREE ZONE, where firearms are outlawed, the said law did ZERO to protect the children.

When is the US going to wake up, and realize keeping your fingers crossed is NO way to protect the Children?

We have armed guards in Walmarts protecting the low quality crap they sell, yet we do not have the same at Schools?  Points to a society with screwed up priorities...

I'll have to agree with the fact that mental health issues can be a problem for this type of situation, not everyone can be trusted with a gun. Where the money flows, you'll need protection, same goes with the banks. Maybe our society isn't ready for this kind of responsibility, even tough some gun owners proved us wrong. The crime rate is growing more and more, but the real question is: what happens when Americans get their guns stripped away from them? Will the crime lower itself, or will things get even worse?

The US is fighting a war on its own land.
1992 - 2013 = 21
It's also 21 years, which is not the length of those events, and considering America wasn't on the losing side....

I don't see how thats a surprise. America has a something like 300 million population at the moment.  If only 170,000 (170 THOUSAND not Million) people were murdered in 21 years. That doesn't seem to bad.

Lets check to be sure though.

RESEARCH:

Well according to this yes, America does defiantly have elevated homicide rates.  But using 21 years of murders as an example for how bad it is, isn't helpful. Anything looks bad if you throw 21 years on it.

1: yes I am quite aware that the Swiss have conscription.

2: well WWI we lost 117,000, Korea 30,000 Vietnam 66,000 and the current conflicts and gulf war one 9,000 so I don't know where you pulled those figures spell

3: the US is hard to compare to other nations. As I have stated before there are three major points.

-we have 300 million, so how do you try to compare us to any country that isn't even close to that figure?? New York has more people then some countries in Europe.

-we have a varied culture. We don't have a population that is completely one ethnicity, we have many, and each has its owns different views

-our nation is so large that there are many distinct ideals. The Midwest does not resemble the east coast, or the south or etc.

That all being said, we have a lot of work to do to reduce the gun crime. We honestly make it too easy sometimes to buy a gun, when considering recent events it should be harder (and I don't mean restricting the right).

Mental health also plays a factor in this debate. Our current system is very broken and part of the problem is the mentality of NO FREE HANDOUTS! Honestly if people are not productive to society, we need to help them become productive, cause it ends up costing us in both money (32k a prisoner a year) and blood (anything and everything)

Well it's a very complex subject to talk about, there are pros and cons on both sides , if you let Americans keep their weapons,  irresponsible citizens can make it hard to convince the government to support their cause , if they don't have any weapons, they can't defend themselves.

And irresponsible citizens without guns are not dangerous too? You can't just take away their weapons, with the mass quality of them already out in the air it would be impossible to take them away and attempting to do so would only make matters much much worse.

And it's not Irresponsible citizens, it's insane homicidal citizens.
