Whats the size of the mods file?

My DayZ folder is 137MB , you also need to download the Arma 2 OA Beta patch which is an extra 8MB so about 145MB

If anyone needs help installing both of these I'll happily try to help.

I finally got the mod working, met 2 unarmed players who were pretty nice. (Probably because they were unarmed.)

Ended up dying, though.

How long did you survive

I did alright, actually. I sort of dropped my backpack somehow (I suck with ARMA interface), and I kind of kept accidentally throwing flares (I was trying to throw tin cans). I pretty much decided to start over and die. Never found anything worthwhile, no weapons or anything. Met a lot of zombies though, I didn't realize this game would have fast-zombies. I prefer lots of slow.

Nope. Read on their forums you can use Arma 2 Free and Operation Arrowhed.
