How we should fix minecraft (if we want to)

1. Control: ther first thing is that we need our own server under our own control.
with the state of the current server we do not have control and that is why it is dead and by dead i mean it basically doesnt exsist.

2. Plug-ins: This I do not know a whole lot about but the first plug-in that sly had for his server worked pretty good. It had its problems with people not allowed to mine below the place where people claimed, which is kinda silly. Unless there is a better plug-in for preventing griefing this is the best option

3. Administering: arguably the biggest problem with the old server. The old rule's stated that if you get griefed it is at your own risk. That's not the way we run things around CG and more importantly it creates drama on the server and prevents new players from staying as they would rather go somewhere more friendly. We need just a handful of admins and a head admin for the server and they need to implement the rules especially with regards to griefing. Griefing shouldn't be allowed at all on the server.

4. Having fun: Minecraft is a game with no boundaries and what would be a good idea is for a place on the forums under the minecraft section to post build ideas such as building a castle or a floating island and such. Somebody could fill out something and ask for help building large cool things.

5. Admin powers: One last problem that I saw was admins using their powers to build large things in a little amount of time or with rarer blocks or building/griefing peoples houses. While I could see the use of powers to make slime pistons because of how rare slimes are, anything else should be found/mined and then built the old fashion way, with hard work. It kinda takes out the whole point of minecraft to just insta build structures!

I say just buy a new server. You guys have like $1500 left in donations. And it would be owned by CG and not Sly. You would be able to do what you want with your server instead of him holding you back and disappearing.

Another thing to add to make server better.
1. /help, shows everyone plugins that are used in server with commands it uses.

2. Use faction Mod only.

3. have spawn area that shows ALL rules and their exceptions and features the server has like some other minecraft servers.

4. We need a person who's familiar with bukkit and the code it uses :O 

5. we need some things to keep players busy and attracted to the server.

6 . Maybe have the server be faction PVP with several mods such as runecraft, mcmmo, and this other mod forgot wut it was called that allows people to turn paper into certain spells (fireball, lightning, invisible, etc)

Or we can have a mix of free build and Faction PVP, using permissions allow a certain group of people to build in a certain area.

a bit of financial support for the server (possibly)

also I would set up the server in general and it would be an actual CG server not a third party so any bullshit will be handled accordingly and hopefully better quality.

@ lolnub: only problem with the faction plugin is people started to spread it everywhere to the point where large parts of the server were taken over. It became part of the reason why the server died.

@ wg: yeah that's a problem. I think you said mc servers are quite expensive.
