Why there will NOT be a CG BF3 server...

Ok,

We are disappointed.  We WANTED to have a BattleField 3 server. Sadly, EA is being way, way too controlling. (Really they are trolling.)

We wanted to host BF3 on our own server, like we do with our ZPS, ZM, and TF2 servers.

Sadly, this is not allowed.  EA wants you to go to preselected service providers, who charge a minimum of 4 times the going rate for servers.

In addition, having modified servers of any kind, seems to not be allowed. So, no game mods.  The way the agreement looks, we probably could not even have map selection. 

Oh, and they would not allow proper administration of the server.  Like, you would not be able to use specific admin commands, and control of the server would be critically limited.

So, if we wanted a server, it would be 4x expensive as using our own server, it would be vanilla, and we would not control it.

No thanks.

Link to their forums about their choice on how to run BF3 servers.  This forum is written in the most positive of light for EA, and as you can see, it still sucks.
