What to get for laptop to make run faster?

I am about to get 150$ in my possession, what can I buy, like more RAM or an external hard drive, that would make Minecraft run faster?

And possibly make FRAPS run smoother as well.


I thought an external hard drive would, for more memory?
Because I don't think I need more RAM, I have 4 GB


Or maybe I should just buy the rest of the DBZ Box Sets at Wal-Mart?

Specifications of the said notebook?  External HD will add storage space, not speed (usb is slower than sata.)

Does it have space for an additional internal HD? (If so, adding a 7200 rpm HD to a system with a 5400 or 5200 rpm hd would increase speed, if the memory swap file is moved to the new drive...) (get a bigger cache size on the new drive, that would help a little, too.)

With that kinda money I'd save up for a desktop. My current one does everything I need and I got it for the price of $500. Other than that I can't really suggest anything :/ Tried Gamebooster?

Well, this is mostly for something to speed up Minecraft, since my other games work fine.

And I can't really save up any money, considering I don't ever get any like this, as I am selling a Wii I got as a reward for putting 16+ hours into helping kids in E.S.S. (After-school program to make-up assignments and stuff like that).

hmm.   looking up specs - ok need more than HP G72 - I need the full model number, as there are 29 different G72 products.

An external hard drive will not speed your system up.

Can you add an additional internal hard drive to your system?

I am sorry it is an HP.  I am hoping it is not Nvidia based video. 

Saving up would be wise.

You have integrated graphics by Intel, which means you do not have great video...   Adding memory may improve the graphics, but I need the laptop model number to see if you can add additional memory...

Hmm. Odd.  Unless they have changed their stickers in the past year, they are usually on the bottom.

Hmm.  your laptop supports 8gb ram.  This would help, but not much.  As the graphics card is quite limited.

computer is on a bit of a slow side cpu/graphics card wise

don't even mess with the ram until you bring those 2 up

try to update your graphics driver and your directx (not sure if this will help with minecraft but worth a shot)

Sadly, its a laptop, so he wont be able to bring the cpu/graphics card upto anything else.


I would say, save up.  And buy a new system.  Desktop performs better for games.

If you have to stick to laptops or prefer them the newer high end Sony Vaios can run just about anything. My dad's was capable of running Crysis on high.
