I personally hate it. The spawn is in a nice place. Bunch of sand and water but that is also the problem. Also I just find it ugly. Why not.
Although people have started building quite a bit.

If you do change the map, get one with lots of steep mountains and awesome overhangs.  I don't know about anyone else but these are so much fun to build in.
