Need a bzip program for rp

Now before you randomly throw a link to a bzip program one of a few

we need on that can SPECIFICALLY bzip entire folders because we have to compress thousands of files in what seems to be hundreds of folders which could take hours


or if someone can find a command to do this that would be great

i doubt anyone can really help but might as well post here


this will drastically reduce download times and we can finally open the rp server to the public

as of now the rp server is in alpha testing and later today/tonight probably beta testing

I don't think bZip'ing an entire folder is good for the server. You HAVE to bZip the individual files cause it will download them, and unpack them. It won't work with folders for 2 reasons:

• Cache's MUST be re-dowloaded on each join, resulting in an entire folder being downloaded constantly.
• You need files to be downloaded separately so they get placed correctly.

I could be completely wrong with this, but on all the servers I have owned, this was never an option because of the issues it brought.

THEIR is a way to do this but it requires either a program that we can't find or programming

We have had our original file by file bzip tool for about 2 years now XD (i have at least)

Yeah, i'm only familiar with the file by file type. I'll go look for one, if I find anything i'll post it here.

Well I just did a bit of research, and from what I've read, you don't need another program. You just have to bzip2 the ENTIRE folder, then put it on your Web Server. After doing that it should work. According to how this works. Or does bzip2 not allow you to compress folders?

Won't work. Everything needs to Bzip Separately.

I think I may have a batch script ready up for this soon.

Something like this

Find the dictionary you want to bzip like /desktop/maps it would be:

find /desktop/maps -not -name \*.bz2 -exec bzip2 \{\} \;
But thats the linux terminal code. I can translate that to something CMD will understand easily.
