(Those are the two negatives)
NEEDN'T = CONTRACTION OF NEED NOT = NEGATIVE.

He only had 1 negative in the sentence.  :o

The definition states that a double negative requires two negatives in a sentence. I only had one negative in my sentence which means you are incorrect. Just like G-man says. ^_^

I meant to say "I can wake up at 10:00 am if need be."
If need be is not a negative. Negatives are No, not, neither, nor, negative, nope, ect... As you can see, they all start with N. Can't and cannot are also negatives. They both involve the word not.
