ZM2 is still buggy as fuck.  Until it is perfected people won't abandon ZM1, I know most of our admins prefer ZM1, some of our players have flat out said they don't want ZM2, so I'm pretty sure we'll be good for a while at least.

Given that ZM2 isn't finished, I doubt it will take over immediately. If/when they iron out the issues and add the missing content, though, I can definitely see it replacing the original.

You didn't play Zombie Panic v1.0 though... I did. ZPS came out along with a steam update which f'ed the <{0w3nd}> Clan server, killing the only remaining server running. A few servers came up to try to revive it, but we only now play it on a rare basis, event made in advance.

This is the same instance, ZM is a small community mod, and ZM2 is a big improvement, once the bugs are fixed, I see little reason to keep the older server myself. I hate to see it go, but we wont be able to maintain the population, for example I haven't seen in busy once since ZM2 launch. (Yes that might just be when I check it, and I'm sure there have been people playing, but I myself haven't seen it!)

I hope we can get everything up on zm2, maps and everything soon, it will become a badass server.
My opinion generally is ZM2 will be better, once the bugs are fixed. (im not even sure what these bugs are)

Bugs I've encountered so far: 

ZM menu some of the buttons you click and don't do anything (like expiring/deleting zombies)

Survivors inventory is fucked in general, some weapons you can't pick up at all, some pistols are picked up as primary weapon not secondary slot, sometimes you throw a weapon and it just disappears from the game but sometimes it works as it should, using next weapon/previous weapon buttons does not work you have to press the number key to select the slot.

Zombies will "slide" instead of walking, saw this a LOT on docksofthedead, shamblers just gliding across the floor then stopping to actually walk properly when they see a survivor.

That's all just off the top of my head from playing it the other night, once the whole "oh yay this is new" wears off the game is crap to play with bugs like these.
