Well,  there is a simple reason,  Console playing is not as "precise" as computer play.   This would have led to a lot of Console players getting owned, because even the weakest computer player can be quicker, and more precise with shots, due to the higher graphics and better controls.

That was one of the reason.

The other reason was that releasing updates every now and then is hard for consoles. Since Microsoft and Sony are being so hard on updates. Because they need to inspect them theirselves.

Console players being bad at everything besides the fact.

The game would have suffered because then valve would have had to waste a lot of time making the game suitable for console play as well as pc play (which is an ass to do), meaning they'll be spending less time and money on things that actually matter. Not to mention Consoles charge game companies LODSEMONEH for every single update over their services. Not Dlc, actual gamefixing updates.

Nintendo is hurting, they just posted a loss this quarter, Sony and Microsoft said they made no money of selling the consoles themselves and overall their return has not been big. The fact is that PC is going to continue to look better because console's are only going to go up in price. Who wants to pay $800 for something that has limited interface, outdated hardware and no chance to upgrade, when a pc can do all that plus more. Console's may be media centers but its still built to play games primarily and they are losing ground fast to the PC and smartphones
