Don't worry, the Four Kings, Sif, and Ornestien should put your dex in it's place.
They don't like anyone who isn't rocking some nice heavy armor and they'll destroy you in 1 or 2 hits.

Nice, the game's coming out in March 2014. That's plenty of time for me to pick up Dark souls 1 and tear my keyboard and mouse.

Yeah you wanna tear those and get a controller because yeah they don't really work on this game all that well.

Yeah, you're not using your Keyboard and Mouse for this game :<
Apparently Keyboard and Mouse only is what some of the more "Professional" Players use for Challenge runs. The controls are so bad that the developers themselves refer to the porting as "Half Assed" and "Quite Shitty"

But with an Xbox controller plug-in it becomes completely fine to play.

I still hate how clunky the camera feels, but otherwise the game controls ok with a controller.

Sounds like either:

A. Broken thumbstick

B. Thumbstick was out of its center position when plugged in

C. Need to go to properties and calibrate the controller so it finds the proper center position
