Wii U sales not looking so good
« on: July 31, 2013, 11:50:38 PM »
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/31/exactly-how-bad-is-the-nintendo-situation

So I know there was a discussion about the Wii U about a month ago (which nobody bothered to continue once I put a huge wall of text up Meme10) This paints a pretty ugly picture about the situation.

WiiU is crap, 3DS is great.  Nintendo is pretty much got a wash right now.

Luna started the rover's engine.  "AEIOU!" She shouted as she slammed the gas and crashed through the wall.

I don't think Nintendo expected to sell a lot with no games out, so I'm sure they saw this coming, or at least I'd hope so. I don't quite understand why they launched so early but Nintendo's been in the console game longer than Sony or Microsoft, so I'd like to think they know what they're doing.

They aren't hurt by this and I don't believe they will be trying to "win" any console war this time around after the Wii dominated sales last war.

Perhaps they just wanted a second system out as an alternative to the Wii's shitty graphics. People are still buying Wii's and the people who have the extra money and desire for better graphics will have the WiiU as a choice. There weren't too many game developers working with the WiiU up until now, and I believe that once the XboxONE and PS4 are out; a lot of games will be developed for WiiU too with the new graphics capability and whatnot. Nobody expects Nintendo to outdo the other consoles, as that's never been Nintendo's goal.

Everyone knows how "bad" the Nintendo situation is when they walk into Gamestop and see the same 3-4 racks of WiiU games that were there months ago. Regardless of the sales it's still a bitching console, it just needs games and more advertising/people aware it exists.

My friend in jail says another guy he knows in there is certain the WiiU is an expansion pack for the Wii. There are free people on the internet just finding out the WiiU exists.. but I'm sure things will pick up next year. When Brawl, Zelda, Yoshi and the others come out; those are the only games I'll really need. It's not like I ever bought more than 12 games for my PS3, I won't need many for the WiiU.

I'll definitely be buying a PS4 though.
This whole thing is a travesty.

For starters, Pillz is obviously the sexiest.

I can't deny that the Wii U's been doing poorly in 2013, yes, it has problems. But to say that a major home console from one of the big three is forever doomed less than a year after its launch is just downright naive... I certainly remember how the PS3 was doing during its first year, all that was said about it in '06-'07 was "$600 and no games," and it went on to perform like it has. To say that less-powerful hardware will never sell is to ignore the smash successes of the GameBoy, PS2, and DS.

There's no denying that it's in trouble and will take some serious hard work to turn around, I concede that completely, but it's far too early to make a call. Blows my mind how quickly the world of journalism forgets that game systems have been in binds like this many times before.

I think he means less powerful than the alternatives, but I don't think they were less powerful, no idea though.

There was no alternative's to the GameBoy.
And PlayStations have always been ahead of other consoles with processing power.

Actually there were alternatives, but there's no point getting into an argument about it.

Stronger alternatives? What? No...

Gameboy was the main stream hand held gaming device. And the strongest of it's time.

The article agrees with you that its too early to call it quits, but if the WiiU doesn't pick it up within the next year, it will turn out to be a flop.

Where in my post did I say they were stronger, or they had to be mainstream? Even though there WERE ones stronger than the GameBoy.

While it was a flop, Atari Lynx was a better alternative, had colour before the GameBoy had, too. Then Game.Com, then Turboexpress. loads more.

Again, no point arguing. And get on topic, Wiiu time.

You forgot SEGA GAME GEAR which was awesome and in color long before Gameboy was!

Also it was 16 bit, so the Game Gear was way better than the Gameboy.
