CG Gamemode

As some of you know My brother and I (wholegrain and wholegrainhunta) have been throwing around ideas and looking through code models and talking to see what is and is not possible for garrysmod

we feel that this gamemode is definitely something that would require alot of support although the majority of the coding wholegrainhunta will be doing.

We can however use a hand and if you would like to help us your name will be included when the gamemode is released (released as in our server goes public for it your names will be displayed when you join and what position you were.)

If you have skills in these current areas including
  • Lua coding
  • Map Making
  • Texture Desigh
  • Model Design

Than please post here and if we are not familiar with your work please post some examples as for we are not trying to make our gamemode look like it was done by someone who is 7


the gamemode is basically ai vs players


we have a few ideas on how to do it
1. it would like like an infusion of zm (no zombies just the rts setup) killingfloor (upgrades) and empires/fortwars (collect resources and build defensive structures)

basically it is a set amount of players going up against combine (reskined and rearmed with rpg machine rifle sniper etc....) helicopters and tanks (all heavily coded to actually be somewhat tactical)
the guns are going to be somewhat realistic (insurgency type for a basic idea) and the ai is going to be a bit more challenging (not just accuracy but tactics one squad advanced and another suppresive fire etc...)

we need to completely code everything from scratch
we need good textures and models (military style)
we need a map that is heavily customized for the ai and the gamemode

but the ai is going to be heavily coded (we checked to make sure it is even possible for most of what we wanted in the gamemode and adjusted accordingly)

if this gamemode is done right it is going to be big

Currently we do not have a timetable but I would assume the gamemode would be playable after a few days of coding


the gamemode/map will be under constant improvements and suggestions will be welcome

We could use the Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry NPC pack for player skins...I can't provide a link ATM, but they are quality military-style skins.

Yeah, it would be REALLY nice. Even when I get killed I am slightly aroused. This would help calm my arousal.

Wholegrain, i'm willing to help, but just a warning, this isn't going to take a few days of coding. This is going to take a month at the very LEAST. There is A LOT of work that goes into this, and you need a team of people to do it. You need testers, coders, graphic design teams. I just want you to be aware of the stress and the time that comes along with a project like this. This won't be easy, and it sure as hell won't happen quickly.

But, all that aside, i'm all for it, just hit me up with what you need and i'll be on it. I love these types of things, and plus, having a physical game mode i helped create looks good on a resume. So yeah. That's cool too.

I am aware and yes my brother has an extensive and very good coding history
(10 years)

he has made game engines so im sure an existing engine isn't so hard


he did tell me it would take a bit of a while but wouldn't be to hard.


We are not going to use anything from any other  gamemode
we are going to be asking all the models/textures if we can use them (email them) and if we get permission but their credit up for the gamemode.


I am aware of the challenge and I am up for it as for the rewards exceed the input into the gamemode for both the community and the individuals involved (playing = fun if you participated = reference project for later when you are getting a job)


also CG getting to this point from when i started my very first server nearly 4 years ago 2 years before the birth of cg and working our way up to where we are.  We had to fight to get to where we are and we had alot of hardworkers among all the ranks that made us this large.

I'm onboard, I used to Map back in the day, maybe ill hop on sourceSDK and get back into it. Anything you need, let me know and ill give it my best shot, I've got a lot of free time  frogface
