"Anime News Network's columnist Todd Ciolek attributes the soaring popularity of Code Geass to "the series hitting every important fan sector," with the audience appeal points ranging from a "complex cast of characters and a fast-paced story, told with Goro Taniguchi's capable direction" for "general-interest fans" to "pretty and just-a-little-broken heroes" for "yaoi-buying female fans."[61] Carl Kimlinger also finds that the series "has the skill and energy to carry viewers over the top with it, where they can spend a pleasurable few hours reveling in its melodramatic charms."[62] He also adds that Taniguchi "executes the excesses of his series with care, skillfully intercutting events as Lelouch's plans come together (or fall apart) and using kinetic mecha combat".[63]"

It bugs me when people refer to the mechs in code geass, I don't consider it a mecha anime at all. I guess it is, but it never registers as one in my head.

Also, Code Geass  = CG = Conjoint Gaming

IT'S A SIGN!

The giant robots are called mechs, but I never really considered it a mech anime. Does that make sense?

B-but the Nightmares are giant robots and uh those are mechs!

(Neon Genesis Evangelion and Eureka Seven would be something I would consider slightly not mecha due to the origins of the "mechs" but that's a whole nother spoiler laced story)

I sorta get what you are saying though, like the Nightmares aren't that much of a center plot point right? Thus you don't regard it as a mecha anime

I honestly stopped watching because it felt like a mech anime; I mean I really liked the storyline and whatnot but I was also watching Death Note and Ghost in the Shell at the time and I preferred those so I just gave up on CG

Death Note isn't terrible at all, but for some reason I found Death Note more entertaining than Geass; though I don't and probably won't watch much anime anymore as I watched it all back when I was a lifeless 15 year old. Also I cheered for Kira more than I did Lelouch who I just kind of seriously hated for some reason.
N didn't die, he's the one who finally defeats Kira; L is the one who dies and I cried when he did.

I don't care what you people say Death Note was badass and was half the reason I wanted to go into detective work to begin with; as I was in a huge phase where Sherlock Holmes, Death Note, CSI, House, Ghost in the Shell and other shows were all I watched. I wasn't saying Geass was worse than Death Note I just said I didn't care for it; just something about that asshole Lelouch and all the mech suits just made it unrelatable and boring to me.

I would much rather be a serial killer/god than a mech army leader; although making people bend to my will with mind control would be awesome too, if only it worked more than once.

Death Note has got to be one of the lamest shows, I am disappoint Pillz.

Good for you, you probably haven't even seen it all like the many other things you consider lame but haven't touched. :p I am equally disappoint in you for being disappoint I enjoyed a show you didn't.

I concur; both are lame albeit entertaining to some degree. If only I was gay for little boys, then I'd really like it; now they just need to make a lolicon based anime; oh wait I guess there are quite a few of those.

Lelouch was an anti-hero, he would kill innocent people to achieve his goals, but in the end we still side with him ? Code Geass presents such moral questions that I can't help fanboy over :3

And if anyone wants to read good fanfiction, try this http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6969408/1/In-the-End
It leaves off directly from when Lelouch was assassinated.

The introduction "Seconds after Lelouch's murder, the world descends into chaos unlike the peace he had hoped for. After all, brilliant schemes like the Zero Requiem do have a tendency to go awry... Suzaku, Kallen, Nunally, C.C and Lelouch POV. "

YOU BEST HIDE THEM SPOILERS

Lelouch and Kira are both chaotic good guys so to say. They have the best intentions but end up straying from them and committing cruel acts in order to achieve their goals.

Ummmmmm somewhat but here is the difference

Kira did start out with good intentions but when he started murdering innocent people to continue his work, he lost all legitimacy in my eyes. It's quite hypocritical to kill criminals then turn into one in order to continue your work. This is compounded by the fact that at the end, he tries to kill everybody (including his own father) and proclaims himself a god. His actions really don't solve anything for the world and he becomes more of a terror to normal people then criminals.

Lelouch doesn't have this hipocracy. He set out to save the world, knowing fully well the consequences of his actions. Sure he is surprised when things don't go his way, but all his actions are redeemed at the end, when he sacrifices his own life to free the world. He did not want to kill Euphemia, and did not want Shirley to die as well.

Crow, Light snapped when he got complete power and started losing it. Originaly light was going to write his own name in the Death Note or have the Shinigami(Who's name I always forget) do it. After snapping he imagined himself god of the new world, doing anything he can to make the world a better place, no matter the cost.
Leleouch and light are very similar, the difference is Lelouch was a strategist and stayed out of the fight most of the time, mainly letting others lead, he only lead when it helped him or was needed. He never had absolute power. Light did, his enemy knew he was Kira and he knew his enemy knew, they had to work together and against each other at the same time. Light completely lost it after killing N. Since then he had not only absolute power, but no more consequences besides that of the Death Note.
