what about....a spoiler type button. whatever you have that is "18+" you can use the spoiler tag thing and you have to push a button to be able to see the content

I support this in the case that: M rated games material
The content is about a M rated game. (For non-US people the game is meant for people 18+)
I do not support this for: Porn
If you want to share porn, use steam or an instant messenger. There is no NEED for a gaming community to have porn. It can only get us in trouble.
Suggest:
Put this in with the understanding that porn is still not allowed.
-
haha I definitely didn't mean for it to be used in that way. I guess i should have worded it better
-
We could just call it "Graphic" or something, so anytime someone posts something a little too NSFW, we can hide it and allow all who want to see it, to see it. Given everything abides by the rules..
-
Hmm.
My thoughts: If it is 18+ material, how are we to enforce the age limit? People can easily lie about their age on the internet.
Open community is open. If you can't post it for all to see, should it be here?
Porn is a BIG NO on the forum, our hosting service, along with most all forum hosting services, are strictly no porn.
So if it is Not Safe For Work, it really should not be posted here.
Kinda removes the "need" for such a "button."
-
If they push the button that says "I am 18 or older, let me see this funny picture of a boat" then they are saying that they are old enough to see it
-
I think we should get it. If people lie about their age they will see content fit to their 'age'.
-
Yeah, the onus is on them, but its on CG, too. All it would take to close the forum is one upset helicopter parent.
-
I disagree with this, there's too many underage forum members, from my experience Conjoint Gaming is not a place for inappropriate material. That kind of stuff doesn't just make people look bad, it makes CG look bad as a whole. As Cadaver said, its an "Open community", not a closed clan.
tl;dr Keep it clean, Keep it professional
Just my two cents
-
I mostly started this because I saw what Cadaver said here (http://www.conjointgaming.com/forum/index.php?topic=5046.msg76346#msg76346)
I don't know what was outside of the forum rules, but it could have been placed in a spoiler-type tag
-
A spoiler feature would be nice.
while we're at it we can add greentexting
-
This is a good idea. If the younger members still want to see the stuff, they can lie about their age. all it means is it takes any possible liability off us, which is a smart idea anyways.
and no porn

Personally I don't see the point, everyone that is under 18 is going to click on the button anyways...
-
I mean, just a year ago I wouldn't be allowed to click the 18+ button, so like- I was looking up terrible shit on the computer when I was 14, so I guess if the 10 year olds were actively using our forum it'd be a problem, but I doubt parents would ever become an issue like that. Would they call the cops on a website their kid was on? Probably not, unless they're like weird as fuck. They'd just get mad at the kid.
And proceed to choke them with their headset. Right?
-
Of course this is all implying we really care about the kids who use these forums.
It's not like we WANT them here.
at least I don't

No point. Might as well put that "if you're under 18, close this tab NOW (or we'll call your parents and tell them you're a bad kid)" thingy on the 18+ section. IMO a 18+ section would be ok... I mean, we're all adults here, right?
-
Hmm. My post there was a preemptive strike, to ensure no one posted against the forum rules, and attempt to redirect the path the thread was going down.
No one had violated a rule, yet. I was making sure it did not happen.
Again, no. One complaint, one misguided post can get CG in trouble. It does not matter if you have a silly little button to press on.
How many of you clicked right on thru on a similar button when you were / are underage? I bet it is most members.
So, how about no?
-
I thought when that option was given to you then CG pretty much gave away the responsibilty like a waver.
-

Um. Not necessarily, no. Not gonna get into the case law, but depending on the U.S. state, European nation, no.
Oh, and just because a law states its a waiver, does not mean we would be protected from legal action... nor from some indignant parent.

Seems unecessarily conveluded, seems almost like if the law was made to be broken so that lawyers could use it to gain their way. Seems like if those higher upp almost made the rules to fit them in any case they would end upp in... weird
oh wait, it isn't that weird since every human is looking towards being immune to anything.

It's not happening folks, we'll just continue to post "appropriate" mature content on the forums and some will post edgy things here and there that'll get removed and the such.
We wouldn't get sued or anything, probably ever. We're just not taking the risk because it's a possibility. I wonder what the chances on getting sued over "graphic" content on a forum would be? I think a great defense would be to point the parents to the fact the kid probably actively uses 4chan, and have them redirect their rage their~ but yeah no, again, probably would never even happen.
We're just playing it safe, so our little gaming community doesn't get shut down or taken to court, honestly that'd be interesting to see.
-
the question is really if it is necesary to have it, if its use is for m+ gameplay geting posted, say some1 wanted to show some of the dead island footage before it came out because it looked awesome then maybe that would be better posted inside of a thing saying warning mature content or such.

No. Actually, we are playing it safe, so our service provider does not boot us off their server, and not refund our money.
Point is, finding an affordable forum host, who does not reserve the right to boot you if you goof, is nigh impossible.
Point is, there is zero way to control who actually sees what.
Point is, one idiot tween could ruin it for the community.
Point is, the button is not necessary, as you could simply warn in title, within reason. (the M rating game play, for instance.)
Point is, when in doubt, ask me to ensure there is little issue.
Enough points?

Isn't it possible to be your own forum host? I think some guy in BOSS was doing that. He had an online server, I bought a domain name, and then they threw the forum together, and "coded" it as they pleased.
If there are pornography forums out there, and millions of other sick things on a forum out there, I'm sure we could do whatever we wanted, if we wanted, somehow.
-
Technically anyone can host their own webserver from their house. (Turn an old box into an FTP, forward the DNS/IP to a domain, etc). But that would mean if the site went down we'd only have one guy working on it (whoever owns the house the box is in, lol) rather than an entire team of network experts (commercial hosting companies).
Let's just face it, CG is for CG stuff. If you want to go watch porn (if you're of age of course, Cadaver ;)), go to a porn site. If you want to partake in other illegal activities online, do your own thing. But keep CG out of it so that people like Cadaver can keep the site appropriate and friendly for everyone.

You don't even need to do it in a house, you can do it online.
Nobody wants porn, that's been said multiple times, everyone's just mad we have rules as if this were a school or workplace forum. NSFW, NSFCG.

Finishing this up. You can host one on your connection but if your sending out porn content it may violate an agreement with your ISP.
There is always a middle man. However our old host allowed Porn Content. Just a random fact.
But yeah we don't need anything 18 + at this point :D
